Frank Ocean-Pyramids

This is a pretty long song for a R&B artist. Anyway, new album drops in July.

Just re-listening to some States. I miss Mindy White being in Lydia. Both bands are still awesome though.

Sunday, June 24, 2012

Songs of the Day: little hurricane, Robert Schwartzman, The Tallest Man On Earth.

little hurricane-Haunted Heart

Little hurricane is a rock/blues band out of California. There's only two members, front man Anthony "Tone" Catalano and drummer Celeste "C.C." Spina. I don't know what is it about duo bands that make them rock so hard. The ones that comes to mind are, The White Stripes, The Black Keys, The Civil Wars, She & Him, etc. I think LH is definitely talented enough to be mentioned along with those other great duos. Tone got this dirty modern rock/blues voice, and C.C.'s voice and drums are amazing too. I'm going to go creeper mode for a sec, and say C.C. is freakin' gorgeous. Especially in this video, in those moments when she's looking at the camera, while kicking ass on the drums. Anyway, check them out.

Robert Schwartzman-Second Chances

Robert Schwartzman, from the band Rooney, went solo. I don't know if they broke up, or he's just doing his own thing temporarily. I'm fan of Rooney, I use to listen to Shakin' all the time. That being said, he's still kicking ass by himself. I like that his brother Jason (Actor, Coconut Records, former member of Phantom Planet) was in this video.

The Tallest Man On Earth-Dreamer

There hasn't been any artist out there today, that can be compared to the great Bob Dylan. In till now. When you're listening to Kristian Matsson, you can hear the influence and similarity between the two. He's special like Dylan.

Saturday, June 23, 2012

Hoodie Allen, aka Steven Markowitz, indie hip-hop artist. This guy has been doing his thing for a few years now. I first heard of him about a year ago. Kishi Bashi-Bright Whites

Monday, May 14, 2012

Songs of the Day: Tribes, Courrier, Imagine Dragons.

Tribes-Whenever

This is from Tribes' album, Baby. I have to say, these guys really have an original rock sound. These days it's hard to have your own sound, because almost everything's been done. People like to dissect and compare music; but for these guys, I can't really compare it to anything. They're that good.

Courrier-Love is a Fire

I love the ambiance this song and band sets. They remind me a little bit of Coldplay, but just different vocals. They both have this "draw in" affect, and that's something special.

Amy Stroup-Chin Up

Love her voice.

Peter Bradley Adams-Between Us

Sugar and the Hi-Lows-I've Got You Covered

They have some very good old school qualities that I dig.

Songs of the Day: The Lighthouse and the Whaler, The Big Pink, St. Vincent.

The Lighthouse and the Whaler-Pioneers

Newish single by The Lighthouse and the Whaler.

The Big Pink-Hit The Ground

Sort of 80ish, but with a modern twist.

St. Vincent-Cruel

Interesting video.

Tuesday, April 10, 2012

Songs of the Day: Meiko, Vanaprasta, Castle Lights.

Meiko-Leave The Lights On

I've been a fan of Meiko for a while. Lets just say when I first heard of her, I had a Myspace page. You guys remember the "People I'd Like to Meet:" section? She was one of them.

Vanaprasta-Healthy Geometry

I think I posted this before, but I can't remember. Oh well.

Castle Lights-Paint The Stars

This is an accurate example of what alternative music should sound like.

Saturday, April 7, 2012

Artist Focus: Ed Sheeran

I've been hearing Ed Sheeran's song, Lego House, at work for months. Finally found out who he was. I'm glad I did, Sheeran has a lot of other good songs. You need to literally listen to all of his songs.

EPs: The Orange Room, Loose Change, Ed Sheeran: Live at the Bedford, Songs I Wrote With Amy, and No.5 Collaborations Project

The A Team

Songs of the Day: Lady Danville, Walk off the Earth, Trey Songz.

Lady Danville-Better Side

Lady Danville should be more famous! Anyway, I love this music video, very creative. Check out their new "Operating" EP.

Walk off the Earth-Somebody That I Used to Know (Gotye Cover)

Most people prefer the original artist's version over any covers of it. I'm going to be bold, and say that this is just as good as the Gotye version.

Trey Songz-Heart Attack

New song from Songz. This is from his upcoming album "Chapter V".

Saturday, March 31, 2012

Songs of the Day: Bryan John Appleby, Campfire OK, The Horrible Crowes.

Bryan John Appleby-Cliffs Along The Sea

Really cool music video.

Campfire OK-Strange Like We Are

The Horrible Crowes-Sugar

Vocal sounds familiar? It should, it's Brain Fallon from The Gaslight Anthem.

Tuesday, March 27, 2012

Songs of the Day: Childish Gambino, Daughter, Matthew Mayfield.

Childish Gambino-Do Ya Like

Troy for President!

Daughter-Home

I love her sound, sounds a little like The xx and Florence Welch.

Matthew Mayfield-Fire Escape

I dig the gritty voice, and Brittney Snow looks good in this.

Friday, March 23, 2012

Songs of the Day: Surprises, Saint Motel, Augustana.

Surprises-Parallel Lines

"You're always out of reach. Like parallel lines we'll never meet." Reminds me a little of Death Cab.

Saint Motel-At Least I Have Nothing

Really cool indie band. Their sound is original, which is refreshing.

Augustana-Someone's Baby Now

I've said it before, I think Augustana sounds like true Americana music. They sound country, but not completely; sprinkled with some folk and rock.

Monday, March 19, 2012

Songs of the Day: Yellow Ostrich, Ambassadors, Yukon Blonde.

Yellow Ostrich-Mary

The dig the video for this song.

Ambassadors-Unconsolable

Love the instruments in this.

Yukon Blonde-Wind Blows

Saturday, March 17, 2012

Artist Focus: Alex Clare

Alex Clare is a singer-songwriter from London. He's a relatively new artist, his debut album "The Lateness of the Hour," was released last year. I would say his style is a mix of Adam Levine and James Morrison. He has that rock edge, backed with this sweet soul fire. Check out the album.

Too Close

Treading Water

Up All Night

Tuesday, March 13, 2012

Songs of the Day: Surprises, Levi Humbles, B.o.B.

Surprises-Magnolia Tree

I also dig the acoustic version of this song.

Levi Humbles-Roads

This is the only Youtube video that had this song. I like to pretend this commercial is the music video for this song.

B.o.B-Play The Guitar ft. Andre 3000

Again, I can't wait for the new album.

Monday, March 12, 2012

Songs of the Day: B.o.B, David Choi, Eric Hutchinson.

B.o.B-So Good

Newish song from B.o.B, from his new and highly anticipated album, "Strange Clouds". The release date is May 1!

David Choi-Missing Piece

I'm glad he has more music videos to showcase his music. Before, it was either a video of him performing his song, or you just saw a video with a picture, and song playing in the background.

Eric Hutchinson-Watching You Watch Him

I like how relatable this song is. What guy hasn't liked a girl, that liked some other undeserving guy?

Friday, March 9, 2012

Songs of the Day: Joshua Hyslop, Morgan Page feat. Tegan and Sara, Hey Ocean!

Joshua Hyslop-Nowhere Left To Go

I dig the unique folksy sound. It calms me for some reason, and makes me want to listen to every word and sound. I dig the banjo too.

Morgan Page Feat. Tegan and Sara-Body Work

Morgan, Tegan, and Sara definitely brought their game on this one. Fantastic combination!

Hey Ocean!-Big Blue Wave

Hey Ocean! is a really cool Canadian band. Ashleigh Ball has this modern Cyndi Lauper-ish type voice, that is just amazing. The band is currently preparing to release their third full length studio album, "IS" this March. That means I have to go check out their first two.

Thursday, March 8, 2012

Songs of the Day: John West, Good Old War, Florence + the Machine.

John West-Rihanna

I don't know why John West like to do Rihanna covers, but keep on keepin' on.

Good Old War-That's Some Dream

A really great song!

Florence & the Machine

Ladies and gentleman, Florence Welch!

Monday, March 5, 2012

Songs of the Day: Phantogram, Satellite Stories, Kevin and The Octaves.

Phantogram-Don't Move

Love me some Phantogram in the morning. I still I have a HUGE crush on Sarah Barthel.

Satellite Stories-Family

Sounds like a mix of The Kooks and Two Door Cinema Club

Kevin and The Octaves-This Is Something

Kevin and The Octaves' song, off their album GUILE.

Friday, March 2, 2012

Songs of the Day: Geographer, Capital Cities, Sunday Girl.

Geographer-Life of Crime

New Geographer album, titled Myth! It just released a couple of days ago, and I just have to say it's pretty kick-ass.

Capital Cities-Love Away

It was really hard to pick just one song to post. Do yourself a favor and check out more of their stuff.

Sunday Girl-Stop Hey

In the beginning, she reminded of Sarah Barthel from Phantogram. That should tell you how amazing she sounds.

Thursday, March 1, 2012

Songs of the Day: Frank Ocean, Avalanche City, Andy Grammer.

Frank Ocean-Rocket Love

Avalanche City-You and I

Andy Grammer-We Could Be Amazing

Monday, February 27, 2012

Songs of the Day: Middle Brother, Rosie and Me, Aloe Blacc.

Middle Brother-Blue Eyes

"Middle Brother is an American rock band consisting of songwriters and musicians John J. McCauley III of Deer Tick, Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes, and Matt Vasquez of Delta Spirit." Holy crap, that's awesome!

Rosie and Me-Bonfires

It's a couple years old, but I still really like this Bird and Whale album.

Aloe Blacc-Green Lights

I'm glad Aloe jumped into a time machine in the 60s, and came to our time. He has a very old school soulful voice, that I just dig.

Saturday, February 25, 2012

Songs of the Day: James Vincent McMorrow, The Maine, Dia Frampton.

James Vincent McMorrow-We Don't Eat

James recently released a new EP, titled We Don't Eat. It's a very top-notched EP. To me, he's like an Irish Bon Iver. They both have this kind of lonely soulful voice and style; like they're in the woods somewhere singing to themselves, and we're just happen to be listening. It's a weird description, but that's as best as I can describe it.

The Maine-Misery

Again, you can definitely hear how mature these guys have become. That's a good thing. I've been listening to The Maine since the beginning, and to hear them now reminds me of how much I've grown too.

Dia Frampton-Daniel

Oh Dia, I'm flattered you wrote a song about me. Daniel is from Dia's first solo album, titled Red. Hopefully, this doesn't mean the end of Meg & Dia, that band still rocks. I'm glad she got more famous after The Voice.

Thursday, February 23, 2012

Songs of the Day: Isaac Russell, Angus and Julia Stone, SBTRKT ft. Little Dragon.

Isaac Russell-Golden

One of my favorite new artist.

Angus and Julia Stone-And The Boy

Their music is getting a lot more plays on TV shows. Finally, the TV is getting smarter.

SBTRKT-Wildfire ft. Little Dragon

I feel so cool, when I listen to this song.

Monday, February 20, 2012

Songs of the Day: The New Limb, The Steelwells, Polaris At Noon.

The New Limb-Work I've Done

I've posted songs from The New Limb before, these guys are awesome. Lauren is really hot and so is her voice, and Joey's voice reminds me a little of Brandon Flowers from The Killers. But don't get me wrong, they totally have their own sound and originality.

The Steelwells-Our Fabled Little Rabits

I really like this music video.

Polaris At Noon-On

In addition to his own stuff, Jason Suwito does some really great remixes of songs, by other great artists and bands. Some includes Adele, Young The Giant, White Arrows, and Thrice.

Friday, February 17, 2012

Songs of the Day: Halos, Hyde & Beast, The Midway State.

Halos-Amalgam

I get a Brand New vibe from these guys, and that's a compliment. Also, the girl in this video is freakin' hott.

Hyde & Beast-You Will Be Lonely

Another great two man band!

The Midway State-Atlantic

Very fantastic find!

Tuesday, February 14, 2012

Songs of the Day: Youngblood Hawke, Erin Martin, Wild Child.

Youngblood Hawke-Dannyboy

I love any song with my name in the title.

Erin Martin-Balloon

I saw Erin performing on The Voice, and instantly fell in love with her voice, looks, and style. It's cool that The Voice lets "professionals" in the competition.

Wild Child-The Tale Of You & Me

Amazing duet voices. Also the instruments is quite fantastic in this song.

Monday, February 13, 2012

Songs of the Day; Isaac Russell, Dawes, Of Monsters and Men.

Isaac Russell-House of Cards

I've been wanted to post this song for a while, from Isaac Russell. But there was never a full version of it on Youtube. Now there is, so I thought I would share.

Dawes-Million Dollar Bill

Newish song from Dawes. I love the lyrics.

Of Monsters and Men-Little Talks

I've posted this song before, but I just found this live version that I really like. Once again, if you're not aware of the public radio station, KEXP, then get aware.

Wednesday, February 8, 2012

Example-Kickstarts

East Hundred-Slow Burning Crimes

I really dig this Suego Faults album

Cider Sky-Pieces

Awesome duo vocals.

Ivan and Alyosha-Beautiful Lie

Monday, February 6, 2012

Songs of the Day: Automatic Loveletter, Jenny Owen Youngs, Casey Veggies.

Automatic Loverletter-Unhearted

I saw my girl Juliet Simms on the premiere of The Voice last night. I was so surprise to see her. I've been crushing on her for a while now, because she looks and sounds sexy as hell. I hope she does well on the show, just like my other girl Dia Frampton (Meg & Dia) last season.

Jenny Owen Youngs-Here Is A Heart

I wanted to post her song Pirates, but I was only able find the live acoustic version. This one is still good too, among many others. Check out her other song, Your Apartment, too.

Casey Veggies-Can I Live feat. Mac Miller

See, I don't just listen to indie and alt. stuff.

Sunday, February 5, 2012

Artist Focus: SOL

I first of heard of Sol about year ago. I saw videos of him performing on KEXP, which is a very awesome public radio station, that plays mostly indie and alternative music. Anyway, he blew my mind. This guy is lyrically talented, true hip-hop. Check out all of his stuff, old and new.

This Shit

Need Your Love

Thursday, February 2, 2012

Songs of the Day: Jhameel, Hannah Georgas, Eli "Paperboy" Reed.

Jhameel-Shut Up

Finally the full version is out! A while back, my friend Katie showed me the teaser video. I was like, "30 seconds?! I need to see more!" Jhameel is awesome, his songs are very exciting. He also screams and have these crazy dance moves. Check out the video, you'll know what I mean.

Hannah Georgas-Chit Chat

I've recommended Hannah Georgas multiple times on my blog. Her songs are mostly cute and bubbly, but it's more like indie cute and bubbly.

Eli "Paperboy" Reed-Come And Get

I'm glad Eli is keeping that 60s Motown sound alive. He puts his own modern twist to it, and I think it connects well to both the older and younger generations.

Wednesday, February 1, 2012

Songs of the Day: Ben Taylor, Girl Named Toby, The Broken West.

Ben Taylor-Wicked Way

This song has a lot of honesty. Some guys do operate with the only intention of sex. The crazy thing is, if a girl heard this song, she might like it, even though the lyrics may not be agreeable.

Girl Named Toby-Holding A Heart

I love the music and lyrics. It's really sweet.

The Broken West-Perfect Games

I dig the originality of this group, haven't heard a sound like them.

Monday, January 30, 2012

Songs of the Day: Maverick Sabre, Stars, The Honey Tree.

Maverick Sabre-I Need

Finally found out who sung this song! I've been hearing it at work for a while, finally got around to googling it. I love this guy's reggae voice, mix with this kind of old school soul style.

Stars-Your Ex-Lover Is Dead

Don't you love it when your ipod plays a song you forgot you had?

The Honey Trees-Orchard

Thursday, January 26, 2012

Songs of the Day: Late Cambrian, The Jezabels, Loch Lomond.

Late Cambrian-ND Passerby

Late Cambrian actually gave me a shout out on their FB. I love it when bands actually take the time to interact with their fans. I just want to say, you guys are very welcome! Those Middle Years is an awesome song, I listen to it about 4 or 5 times a day. These guys kind of take me back to that late 90s/early 2000s era, when alternative rock was the dominant genre. I mean, you had bands like Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins, Incubus, Weezer, The Strokes, RHCP, Oasis, Coldplay, etc. Most of them are still around and rockin', but you rarely see newish bands today that have that similar sound and affect. I sincerely hope these guys blow up even more, because I would love to see them live down here, maybe at SXSW or ACL in the near future.

The Jezabels-Easy To Love

I haven't heard a sound like this in quite a while. You can hear slight influences from other artists, but you can't pinpoint from where or who. I always say, "If it sounds familiar, and at the same time not. Then you are witnessing originality."

Loch Lomond-Wax and Wire

I saw a video of Danny MacAskill doing his bike tricks, with this song in the background. I dig it very much.

Wednesday, January 25, 2012

Songs of the Day: Dan Griffin, Wildlife, We Are The Birdcage.

Dan Griffin-She's a Drug

"She is a drug, and I'm fucked up...on her." I love that line.

Wildlife-Stand in the Water

Check out more from these guys, they're awesome!

We Are The Birdcage-Up & Leave

I dig their new-ish EP 'Little Father Time'.

Tuesday, January 24, 2012

Songs of the Day: Radiohead, Xenia, Dan Mangan.

Radiohead-High and Dry

One of my favorite bands of all time!

Xenia-Sing You Home

I don't usually watch "reality" singing contest shows, but I actually love The Voice. That's where I found out about Xenia, one of the contestants. I dig her voice very much, it reminds me a little of Norah Jones. This song in particular is a little pop-ish. I think she can do better with lyrics with more depth, but I see a definite potential.

Dan Mangan-Post-War Blues

The Canadian Marcus Mumford.

Monday, January 23, 2012

Songs of the Day: Ben Howard, Owl Eyes, Architecture In Helsinki.

Ben Howard-Old Pine

Along with this one, Ben Howard have so many other good songs. Check them out!

Owl Eyes-Raiders

She has a very sweet and playful voice.

Architecture In Helsinki-Desert Island

Sunday, January 22, 2012

Songs of the Day: Joshua Radin, New Navy, Snakadaktal.

Joshua Radin-I Missed You

I've heard this a million times at work, but just found out today that it's a Joshua Radin song. This particular song was a little more upbeat; that's why I didn't tie it to Radin, because most of his stuff is a little bit more slower. I still like it.

New Navy-Animals

I really like New Navy, they have a sound similar to Two Door Cinema Club, but with a 80s sounding voice.

Snakadaktal-Air

I get a mix of Florence Welch and Phantogram.

Thursday, January 19, 2012

Songs of the Day: Jeremy Messersmith, Aer, Chris Cab.

Jeremy Messersmith-Franklin Avenue

I feel like riding a bike through a college campus when I hear this song. Hey, everyone visualize songs differently.

Aer-Feel I Bring

The way these guys look and dress doesn't really match their musical style; which is surprising in a good way.

Cris Cab-Good Girls

Laid-back music.

Wednesday, January 18, 2012

Songs of the Day: Surprises, Sorry OK Yes, Faith Lee.

Surprises-Mouth

Sorry OK Yes-Facedown

If you like The Black Keys, you might like these guys.

Faith Lee-Life Long Friend

I enjoyed this video very much.

Zee Avi-Concrete Wall

I love her voice!

San Cisco-Awkward

We get it, you guys are indie.

Monday, January 16, 2012

Songs of the Day: Dirt Farmer, The Tallest Man on Earth, The Weeknd.

Dirt Farmer-Real Young

These guys have a really original sound, and yet familiar at the same time.

The Tallest Man on Earth-Love Is All

I love Kristian Matsson's voice, it's very griddy and folksy. I dig it.

The Weeknd-Loft Music

Wednesday, January 11, 2012

Songs of the Day: Fun., Gym Class Heroes, SOL.

Fun.-We Are Young

Fun. is a really fun band. The singer was from another cool band called The Format.

Gym Class Heroes-Ass Back Home ft. Neon Hitch

Another song newish song from Gym Class Heroes. This is getting more radio.

SOL-WTF

Lyrical genius!

Monday, January 9, 2012

Songs of the Day: Nathan Roberts, Anthony Hamilton, Jason Mraz.

Nathan Roberts-What Can You Do?

Check out Nathan Roberts's brand spankin' new EP, Beautiful Universe.

Anthony Hamilton-Pray For Me

Anthony Hamilton is back with a new album called Back To Love. As always, Hamilton gives us an example of what true R&B is suppose to sound like.

Jason Mraz-I Won't Give Up

Since the theme seem to be "New Songs," here's a new one from Jason Mraz.

Friday, January 6, 2012

Songs of the Day: Frank Ocean, Jon Lindsay, Nilu.

Frank Ocean-If I'm In Love

Ocean is the bomb! Check out his other stuff.

Jon Lindsay-Bring The Old You Back

Lindsay has a very original style.

Nilu-Sing For You

One of my favorite bands, Young The Giant, posted this on their Facebook. Great post YTG!

Thursday, January 5, 2012

Songs of the Day: Frankmusik, The Weeknd, Goldspot.

Frankmusik-Footsteps

This kinda reminds me of Timmy T for some reason. Of course more modern and updated.

The Weekend-Material Girl

Very smooth R&B. I dig all of his songs.

Goldspot-Tale of the Fish

These guys sorta sound like The Beatles. I know that is a bold statement, but trust me. I too, hate it when bands claim to sound like The Beatles, but don't. These guys never claim that, you can just hear subtle similarities through their music.

Wednesday, January 4, 2012

Songs Named After A Girl:

Goldspot-Emily

Austin Gibbs-Jessica

Josh Kelley-Hey Katie

The Icarus Account-Susie

The Dodos-Ashley

Tuesday, January 3, 2012

Songs of the Day: The Icarus Account, Late Cambrian, Only Son.

The Icarus Account-Keeper of Your Heart

The Icarus Account has a new EP out, now available on itunes. It's a pretty top notch EP.

Late Cambrian-Those Middle Years

To me, Late Cambrian sounds like a mix of Weezer and The Strokes. That has to be the best mix ever!

Only Son-It's A Boy

This song reminds me of the movie Gattaca for some reason.

Monday, January 2, 2012

Songs of the Day: (Female Artists Edition)

Even though I'm a manly straight man, I still appreciate good music from good female artists. Some people might think it's "girlie" or that only females can like it. But that's the thing about music, it's beyond gender, race, etc. If you can connect with it, then that's all that matters. These are just some I'm currently listening to. I posted a similar post, December 2009. Feel free to check that list out too.

Kitten-Kill The Light
