Songs of the Day: Grouplove, Person L, John Nolan, Diggy.

Grouplove-Tongue Tied

Yes, it's the song from the iphone commercial. I've posted Grouplove songs before. Again, check out the whole Never Trust A Happy Song album. I still listen to Love Will Save Your Soul nonstop.

Person L-Untitled

Rediscovering the greatness of Person L. "Well yea, I was going through a change. Well, or a change was going through me...Yea and I was going through a pain
or a pain was going through me." Love it!

John Nolan-Til It's Done to Death

John Nolan, a previous Artist Focus feature artist. He's still amazing solo.

Diggy-Do It Like You (Feat. Jeremih)

See, I listen to mainstream stuff sometimes.

Artist Focus: Aunt Martha

Hey! Another edition of Artist Focus! Today we're focusing on a band called Aunt Martha. These guys are insanely awesome! Their talents are on par with artists like Bon Iver and William Fitzsimmons. Speaking of which, I read or watched somewhere that they went up to a secluded cabin in the woods, to write and record their album. It reminded me of Bon Iver, Justin Vernon did the same thing.

The first song I heard from these guys was called Bloodshot, it was an absolutely amazing song. It's from their earlier EP, called Bloodshot. I loved every song on that EP. Recently, they released a newish album titled, "Norway, ME." I believe that's where the band is from, thus the name. Also, they're coming out with a new acoustic EP called The Abandoned Bedroom Session. So check out both the EPs, album, and cover songs.

Songs of the Day: John West, Abandon Kansas, House of Heroes.

John West-Already There

New from John West. I've posted many of West's songs before. This guy is amazing, and he definitely needs more radio time. Hopefully adding Big Sean to the song, will get him a little more exposure. Kind of like with B.O.B and Bruno Mars. I knew about them way before Nothing On You, but they didn't really get famous in till that song.

Abandon Kansas-The Golden State

Love the vocals, lyrics, and lyrics.

House of Heroes-In the Valley of the Dying Sun

They may not pass for believable soldiers, but the song sure passes for a good song. Check out God Save The Foolish Kings, and other songs.

Walk The Moon-Anna Sun

Not only do I love the song, but I love the music video that goes with it. The dancing is so great.

Of Monsters & Men-King & Lionheart

I've posted song from these guys before. They just have so many good ones, check out the whole album.

Greg Sczebel-I've Got That Feelin'

I've got that feelin' that Greg Sczebel will be more famous. He has a very soulful pop voice, kind of reminds me of Adam Levine.

Monday, December 12, 2011

Songs of the Day: The Royal Sons, Riley & The Roxies, Zak Waters, Noah Gunderson, Jacob Wylde, Michael Nance.

The Royal Sons(Ft. Mariah McManus)-Baby It's Cold Outside

Okay, best modern version of this song. Royal Sons and Mariah is a winning combination. They should do more stuff together.

Riley & The Roxies-OceanGold

This song makes me think of summers, beaches, and girls.

Zak Waters-TNT

Zak Waters will be a big deal one day. I also love his acoustic version of this song, and another one called "Flirt."

Noah Gundersun-Jesus, Jesus

"Because I've been hearing stories about the end of the world. But I'm in love with a girl, and I don't wanna leave her." The lyric to this song is amazing. Some people find it a little controversial, but I don't.

The Paper Kites-Woodland

I'm still listening to The Paper Kites nonstop.

Grouplove-Love Will Save Your Soul

Check out their album Never Trust A Happy Song. It's freakin' amazing! I loved every song.

James Vincent McMorrow-And If My Heart Should Stop

I heard this song a few months ago, I'm still listening to it.

Andrew Belle-Sky's Still Blue

Belle is still doing his thing. Doesn't he sound like a mix of Chris Martin(Coldplay) and Isaac Slade(The Fray)?!

Tigers That Talked-Artificial Cloud

Tigers That Talked is a very underrated band.

The Lighthouse and the Whaler-Under Mountain, Under Ground

Some parts of them reminds me of Bon Iver. I think they're better known for the song White Days. That one is really awesome too.

Thursday, December 8, 2011

Songs of the Day: Sleeping at Last, Childish Gambino, The Maine, The Afterlife Kids, Pigeon John, Cider Sky.

Sleeping at Last-Turning Page

This song is very romantic. Play it for your woman sometimes.

Childish Gambino-Heartbeat

Who knew Donald Glover from Community could rap?! Check out his new album.

The Maine-Don't Give Up On US

The Maine new "Pioneer" is awesome. They sound a little more mature in this one.

This song makes me feel so damn gangster.

Cider Sky-Northern Lights

I definitely like their voices together.

Artist Focus: Jeremy Messersmith

I haven't done an Artist Focus in a while. So this one is dedicated to Jeremy Messersmith.

Jeremy's an indie pop musician from Minneapolis, Minnesota. His first was named The Alcatraz Kid; second, The Silver City; and finally, the more recent The Reluctant Graveyard.

The first song I heard from him was called A Girl, a Boy, and a Graveyard. I absolutely loved it, and it made me want to check him out more. He has this Ben Gibbard-ish voice, and all of his lyrics are very profound and relatable. It's a treat to listen to him, and you guys should check him out.

A Girl, a Boy, and a Graveyard

Beautiful Children

Love You to Pieces

Songs of the Day: Aunt Martha, Allen Stone, Matt Nathanson.

Aunt Martha-2016

Aunt Martha is amazing! I first heard their song "Bloodshot" and "Neighbor Song." I remember reading or watching somewhere, that the lead singer pulled a Bon Iver, and wrote his songs in a secluded cabin in the woods. Lesson of the day, if you want to make quality music, lock yourself in a cabin.

Allen Stone-Unaware

One word, "Soul."

Matt Nathanson-Love Comes Tumbling Down

I heard this song at work, wrote some of the lyrics, and then googled it. I was like, "Matt Nathanson? Really?" I was already aware of him, but didn't know he sung this song. Then I checked out the rest of his album. It's really great.

Sunday, November 27, 2011

Songs of the Day: Sean Hayes, Mike Mains and the Branches, Jesse Morrow, The Paper Kites, Parade Lights, The Wellspring.

Sorry, kind of took a holiday break. Lets get back to it.

Sean Hayes-When We Fall In

Song makes you want to ask a pretty girl to dance. Check out "Powerful Stuff" too.

Mike Mains and the Branches-Stereo

I really like MMB. Reminds me a lot of Mumford and Sons, The Kooks, and Two Door Cinema.

Jesse Morrow-Rolls in and Out

First couple of seconds of this song, I was like, "Sounds like The Black Keys."

The Paper Kites-Bloom

Absolutely love these guys. My friend Katie first introduced me to them. Check out "Featherstone" too. The best way I can describe their sound is "very down to earth". I don't know why I get that impression.

Parade Lights-First Light

The Wellspring-The Ballad of El Goodo

Nice cover. Their voices compliments each other very well.

Sunday, November 13, 2011

Songs of the Day: Patrick Stump, Grynch, Sol.

Patrick Stump-This City

I love Fall Out Boy, but Patrick is definitely doing his THANG with his new album, Soul Punk. I like to play this song, when I'm walking through downtown. Also, I was jamming to this nonstop when Rangers made the World Series. Another song I like is "Allie."

Grynch-All I Wanna Do

Best laid-back party song ever! Sol killed the chorus.

Sol-This Shit

I first heard Sol on KEXP. Do yourself a favor, go to Youtube and type in "Sol KEXP". You will love every song. He might be my next Artist Focus.

Friday, November 11, 2011

Olin & The Moon-Another One Down

The Royal Suns-Finger Crossed

I like everything about these guys. Great find.

The Fray-Heartbeat

New single from The Fray! The album is called Scars & Stories, it'll drop Feb 2012.

The Maine-Don't Give Up On Us

Speaking of new, The Maine has a new album coming out called Pioneer. I think they sound a little more grown-up on this one. I'm going to have to get it when it comes out this December.

Wednesday, November 9, 2011

Songs of the Day: General Fiasco, Light, Civalias Surprise.

General Fiasco-I'm Not Made Eyes

Dig the vocals very much.

Light-Toes

I've been following Lights for a while now, not stalking, I mean her career. First song I heard from her was February Air, that's when I started crushing on her. She's at the social media/You Tube kinda level of fame. I would like to see her at the radio/tv level of fame. I think she's talented enough to be playing on major radio stations across the country. Also, she's very beautiful. She's look like my ideal girl. See how I saved the superficial things for last. ;-)

Civalias-Surprise Surpise

"Don't be afraid. I'm yours for goodness sake." Civalias has a lot of other good songs like We've Got Company and Something Real, but my personal favorite is Surprise Surprise. I don't know why. That's the thing about music, you don't need a reason.

Tuesday, November 8, 2011

Songs of the Day:

Jack's Mannequin-My Racing Thoughts

Straight from the new Jack's Mannequin album People and Things.

Andy Davis-Brown Eyes

What guy can't relate to a song about meeting "the girl"?

The Barr Brothers-Lord I Just Can't Keep From Cryin'

These guys have a similar blues/rock sound as The Black Keys, with a slight modern twist.

Sunday, November 6, 2011

Songs of the Day:

The Bloodsugars-Happiness

Boy & Bear-Feeding Line

Also check out their other songs: Mexican Mavis, Rabbit Song, Blood To Gold. People say they're the next Mumford and Sons. I sure hope so.

Polarsets-Sunshine Eyes

Saturday, November 5, 2011

Songs of the Day:

James Morrison ft. Jessie J-Up

New James Morrison! Can't wait to get the new album!

Lydia-Dragging Your Feet in the Mud

Awesome new Lydia album. I do miss Mindy White, but she's now in a pretty cool band called States. So it's okay.

The Cinema-The Wolf

Speaking of Lydia, Leighton Antelman did his own side project called The Cinema. From the debut album, I like Kill It, Picasso, Say It Like You Mean It...oh hell, I like the whole album.

Friday, November 4, 2011

The Gabe Dixon Band- All Will Be Well

Heard this song from Parks and Rec.

Movie Music

The Mostar Diving Club-Worlds Collide

Just heard this song from the movie Waiting For Forever. Check out the whole soundtrack, it's really sweet.

Cover Artist: Anna Scouten

So far I have three segment titles: Artist Focus, Albums To Check Out, Songs of The Day. Now I'm proud to present Cover Artist. You know how on YouTube, there's hundreds of people doing cover songs. Well, some of them aren't that bad.

I would like to feature Anna Scouten as my first Cover Artist. I first saw a video of her doing a cover of Blood Bank by Bon Iver. Then other ones from artists such as Bright Eyes, Coldplay, etc. My first thought when seeing her was, "Great cover." Second, was "Damn, she's beautiful." Third, "She has really great taste in music." Finally again, "Damn, she's beautiful."

Songs of the Day:

MNDR-I Go Away

I really like her voice. Definitely one of the best electronica band I've heard lately.

Wolf Gang-The King and All of His Men

I had this song on repeat for days. It makes you want to dance and sing along. Apparently, this is the second music video for this song. I saw another one a few months ago, where it had people in life-size chess pieces. There's also another song I like called Lions In Cages.

Of Monster And Men-Little Talks

They remind me a lot of Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros, but less hippie.

Tuesday, November 1, 2011

Songs of the Day:

Jack Penate-Pull My Heart Away

This song makes me feel like sailing, which is ironic because I first heard it on Charlie St. Cloud.

Until June-Baby(Hope You Understand)

Until June is simply brillant!

Sublime with Rome-Same Old Situation

Familiar name, different singer, still great sound. Yours Truly is the debut album of the "new" band. I'm going to give Sublime with Rome a new genre, Pop Reggae. Dig it.

Monday, October 31, 2011

Songs of the Day:

John West-Lovely

I've known about John West for a while. The first song I heard from him was Loved You Tonight. He also did a really cool laid-back cover version of Rihanna's Umbrella, with just his voice and a cello. I actually liked his version a lot better than Rihanna's. Anyway, now he has a few new songs coming out, one being Lovely and another called Right Now. He reminds a lot of Robin Thicke, so if you like Thicke, you'll like West.

1,2,3-Work

First of all, these guys don't even need letters in their name. That's how awesome they are. I love the instruments in this song.

Frank Ocean-Thinking About You

Frank Ocean is so dope fresh. He's like an R&Bish Kid Cudi. Also, he have this other song called Novacane that I really like.
